Snowshoeing – when life gives you snow, go snowshoeing!
Snowshoeing is a wonderful way of exploring the geopark in winter and enjoy the great outdoors, especially if walking is more your thing than skiing! Unlike most other sports, snowshoeing doesn’t require lessons or years of practice to perfect. If you can walk, you can snowshoe. Simply strap them on and go explore.
When using snowshoes, your feet don’t sink into the snow which gives you the option to follow the marked trails or live on the wild side and explore the forest, lakes and landscapes of the geopark, off the beaten track!
Try snowshoeing in the following places in Rokua Geopark:
- Rokua National Park: the new winter trail or the multi-use track.
- Oulujoki River Valley: along the Tar Route
- Oulujärvi Hiking Area in Manamansalo
Ask snowshoes for rent from the following companies:
- Rokua Outdoors in Rokua area
- Hartikan Kartano in Muhos, Oulujoki River Valley
- Manamansalon Portti in Manamansalo island, Lake Oulujärvi (in March - April)
